    Getting at least three detailed quotes from licensed contractors is the most reliable approach. LA permit fees vary significantly based on project scope and square footage, and many initial estimates leave those out entirely. Asking contractors to break the quote into separate line items for site prep, foundation, framing, and finishes helps reveal where the real cost differences lie.
