Plickers in pe
My co-workers and I thought of an idea for Plickers in PE.
When running the mile it can be difficult to keep track of 50 or 90 students. While a teacher is trying to mark down a large group of students coming around the track, other students can be missed or may try cutting the lap when the teacher is not looking.
Our idea is to utilize the plickers system to mark down laps and running time. The program would need a stopwatch and a # of laps setting(we have a 2 lap mile and a 4 lap mile at our school). Each "marker" would need to be scanned the number of times specified by the teacher. Each lap would record a split time that way if a student cut the lap, they will be caught. Once they finish their xth lap(based off of what the teacher has selected), the system will give them a final time of which can be printed out to post for student viewing.
This is similar to chip timing, minus the need for batteries, a computer, or scanning mats. It is hard to find affordable technologies to apply to PE classes, and we think this can be a big step for PE classes all around.
Thank you for your consideration,

YES - that would be a wonderful way to track large classes - I would use this a lot!

How could we forget the days of running laps at school w/ that slip of paper and the PE teacher stamping it as you zipped by him/her? Wait, that still happens! Plickers would be the perfect "slip" into the digital age. The PE teacher could have an instant read on the time(s) each student and for each lap and/or set (based on the activity). Whether it be an individual or group activity, the teacher would have the ability to have a time log for his/her students.
Has anyone come up with a workaround for this in the meantime?
